Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar has called for urgent action following a recent landslide that has severely affected the Lower Jetty area. He spoke to reporters after a joint inspection on Wednesday morning with officials from the Water Resources Department (WRD), Public Works Department (PWD) Roads, PWD Water Supply, and the Deputy Collector’s team, including the Mamlatdar.
Amonkar said the landslide had caused significant damage by caving in a road and disrupting a water pipeline beneath it. “The situation has escalated to a critical level, prompting immediate attention from local authorities. This has become very dangerous. A portion of the road was washed away, and the PWD water pipeline was also affected. The entire area has been without water supply for the last two days,” said Amonkar.
He noted that the PWD has responded quickly and is working tirelessly to restore the water supply. “The urgency of the situation is underscored by the fact that the damaged internal tar road poses a significant threat to vehicles and residents. The landslide has created a hazardous situation where the entire road could be washed away along with vehicles. We have now asked the Mamlatdar to assess the situation and prioritise a proposal for a retaining wall as a preventive measure to avoid such incidents in the future,” said Amonkar.
