Most temples will be closed for devotees in Sattari taluka within the next two days and rituals will be conducted without a mass gathering to be handled by the temple management committee.
This was decided at a meeting with temple committees at the Valpoi police station on Tuesday, on account of rising Covid cases in Sattari taluka.
Addressing the meeting, Valpoi PSI Servesh Gaddi said all temple committees should strictly enforce the SOPs by the State government and informed that there are over 250 active cases, while one person from Massorde succumbed to the virus.
PSI Gaddi sought the support of all temple committees curb the spread of Covid cases in Sattari Taluka and appealed to them to stop mass gatherings during rituals within temple premises. He said rituals may be performed without a mass gathering by the temple management committee.
Representatives of temple committees present at the meeting took part in discussions at the meeting and later, most temple committees decided to close their temple for the public within the next two days.
Meanwhile, there has been a rise in Covid cases across Sattari taluka. A 42-year-old man from Massorde-Valpoi died due to Covid at the GMC hospital on Tuesday.
According to sources, he was admitted at the GMC about eight days ago and his condition had deteriorated two days ago. The body was handed over to relatives and the final rituals were performed in the Massorde crematorium.
Taking serious note of rising Covid cases, an awareness drive was conducted at the weekly Bazaar day on Tuesday.
