Highway traffic was disrupted at least twice late Thursday night along the Gulem-Karmalghat sections, as long queues have left motorists stranded along the accident-prone Karmalghat.
Traffic was stuck for about 30 minutes at the foot of the Karmalghat early Thursday night and again for almost two hours at the accident-prone sharp turn on Karmalghat.
According to sources, a vehicle broke down just before the sharp-turn on the Canacona side of the Karmalghat and no traffic could pass on either side for well over an hour. There was a long queue of motorists and traffic was restored only after the vehicle which broke down was manually moved across the extreme right of the road, to make way for vehicles to proceed on either side one at a time.
The traffic jam which began at about 11.30 pm on Thursday continued till about 1.30 am on Friday.
The vehicle which broke down was finally moved away only on Friday morning, informed sources.
