Members of the Fatorda Block Congress Committee led by president Joseph Silva has decided to quit the party and field a candidate for the Fatorda seat if the party stitches an alliance with the Goa Forward party in the coming election.
Members of the panel have further decided to contest the February 4 election on the banner of a political party instead of throwing the hat in the ring as an Independent. The members have shortlisted two political parties in the event the Cong-GFP alliance becomes a reality.
Fatorda block president Joseph Silva along with Piedade Noronha visited the residence of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Luizinho Faleiro on late Wednesday evening to convey him the decision of the block. Joseph said they will also ask Faleiro to shed light on the Congress decision to forge an alliance with the Goa Forward party. “Our decision is final. If the Congress aligns with the GFP and leaves the Fatorda seat for Vijai Sardesai, we will resign en mass and join a political party. Since only a few days are left for the election, contesting as an independent is ruled out,” he said, adding that the members have shortlisted two political parties to contest under their banner.
