MPT has announced that MSC India was contemplating to start a ship for its containers in the State.
In a press note, MPT said based on discussion with all stakeholders and after identifying key barriers for feeder operators and container agents, a decision was taken on Thursday to grant substantial discounts, including inaugural call offer free of VRC charges and additional concessions for the first three months, to any new feeder operator commencing the service at MPT Goa.
“With this business decision of the port management, it is announced that MSC India is contemplating putting its own vessel shortly for its own EXIM containers.”
“It must be noted that discounts offered will not make the container service consistent and sustainable. The only way to guarantee a regular and sustainable container service at Goa is by giving the operator a substantial volume at least to a level that lends critical mass. Then, no container line or vessel operator would be able to ignore Goa for container trade and abruptly stop the service.”
“The MPT will continue to remain responsive to needs of the trade, especially the local industry and manufacturing. It is solicited and expected that the local industry also patronise MPT Goa for their container transport needs, which is an environment friendly mode, rather than the more polluting and carbon heavy mode of overland transportation to ports in other states,” the MPT stated.
