The special drive to get the marginalised sections of society for Covid vaccination has again evoked lukewarm response.
Blame it on lack of awareness or otherwise, Saturday’s exercise saw only 112 persons from the marginalised sections taking the anti-Covid vaccine at the TB hospital Monte Hill.
Inquiries by The Goan has revealed that the police has managed to mobilise only eight beggars and the homeless from the Margao Municipal garden area for the vaccination on Saturday.
Take note, the special drive had seen only around 300 persons from the marginalised sections who have no ID proof to take the anti-Covid jab.
Last time, the authorities had mobilised the Margao Municipal Council authorities to mobilise the beggars and the homeless for the vaccination. This time, MMC officials seemed to have had no knowledge of the vaccination scheduled on Saturday.
When questioned, Salcete Mamlatdar Prataprao Gaonkar informed that he had placed a bus at the disposal of the Margao police with a request to mobilise the homeless and beggars for the vaccination.
Inquiries by The Goan, however, revealed that the police has managed to mobilise only eight homeless people and beggars from the Margao Municipal garden.
A police officer informed that people from the marginalised sections are not willing to go for the Covid vaccination as they harbour doubts over the anti-Covid exercise.
The situation has only brought to the fore the moot question whether the authorities have failed to create proper awareness exercise amongst the intended beneficiaries of the special vaccination exercise.
