A 46-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh but residing at Gokulwadi-Sankhali was arrested in the wee hours of Friday on charges of killing his daughter with a cricket stump.
According to police reports, the Sankhali Community Health Centre (CHC) Medical Officer Dr Anuja Dabholkar lodged a complaint stating that sometime before 1.10 pm on Thursday, the accused, Sunilkumar Ranjan, allegedly assaulted his daughter Pratima (20) with a cricket stump several times, causing her serious injuries.
Pratima later succumbed to injuries while undergoing medical treatment at the Sankhali CHC.
Acting on the complaint, Bicholim Police registered an offence of murder and arrested the accused under Section 302 IPC at about 12.45 am on Friday.
According to police, Sunilkumar was upset with his daughter for allegedly having an affair with a married man and had assaulted his daughter with a cricket stump to stop her from meeting the married man.
Bicholim PI Mahesh Gadekar is investigating the case under the supervision of Bicholim DySP Gajanan Prabhudesai and guidance of SP (North) Utkrisht Prasoon.
