Speaking to media persons a day prior to their group performance at Cavelosim scheduled at 7.45 pm on Monday, April 24, Travis said it is always a privilege to be a musician.
Travis said he played in India, particularly in metros like Mumbai, Bangalore and also had legendary Indian singer Asha Bhosale sing along with the group.
Travis also assured Goans that the group will play more and more popular numbers in Monday’s performance. “We will be playing for four and half hours and will play the hits,” he added, while informing that the group had a good time playing in Bangalore.
UB40, he said, hails from Birmingham (London) even as he referred to Birmimgham as mini-India. “Hence, it is like coming home,” he remarked.
He also assured that the group will play more numbers where the audience can also hum along. Paying compliments to Goan music lovers, Travis said with the European exposure, he expects Goans to know a lot about music.
Claiming that he has taken up music as a profession, Travis said the group is named UB40 after the Unemployment Benefit registration number to this effect.
According to Travis, Indian and Bangla music has had a good effect on English music.
About the difference in the audience over the years, Travis stated that teenagers want to see teenagers play music. “That’s a good thing,” he claimed.
“To be a musician is always a privilege. Music was invented in India some 6000 to 7000 years ago,” he added.
Informing that he has been to Goa twice in the past, he felt India is “exploding.”
The CEO of KCT Entertainment Dereyk Talker and Managing Director of Hype Entertainment Roussel Miranda were also present for the press conference.
