Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Thursday announced that Goa Medical College and Hospital will soon be empaneled under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY) of Maharashtra government in order to cater to the outstation patients from Sindhudurg district.
Rane met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis and his team on Wednesday evening in order to resolve the matter concerning the fees charged by GMC for medical treatment to outstation patients.
At present, an average of 2,200 patients arrive at GMC each month from Sindhudurg seeking medical attention. A large chunk of these patients will now receive medical facilities for free at GMC.
“MJPJAY is in place and it will be implemented. It has over 12000 packages and all the rates are higher than what is presently charged at GMC. It is a win-win situation for Goa and Maharashtra,” Rane stated.
He further said that by Monday, there will be an Arogya Mitra counter at GMC and Sindhudurg patients seeking medical treatment will be registered at this counter.
“The TPA will only require a letter from its counterpart in Maharashtra. Revenue generation at GMC will continue. Patients with ration cards bearing yellow and orange colour are insured in Maharashtra. Through Arogya Mitra, we will increase the revenue and arrangements and modalities will be worked out along with the senior officials of GMC by Monday,” he said.
It was disclosed that accident and cardiac emergencies are the most common type of medical cases which arrive at GMC from Sindhudurg.
Meanwhile, the health minister informed that between January 1 and February 28, the total collection at GMC though outstation patients was Rs 1.26 crore.
“Presently, GMC revenue averages at Rs 50 lakhs a month and it could cross Rs one crore a month under the new arrangement and over Rs 12 crore annually,” he explained.
