For the past three days, North Goa district BJP secretary Samil Volvoikar has been providing water to the affected people from Cumbharjua constituency at his own cost.

Speaking to The Goan, Volvoikar said he has already provided water supply to areas like PDA colony, Ravalnath Nagar and Green Valley in Corlim, Dhauji in Old Goa, areas of Cumbarjua, Akhada in St Estevam and Carambolim.

“On a daily basis, around 36,000 litres of water is distributed with 18 trips done through the vehicle,” Volvoikar informed.

On the reason behind the initiative, Volvokar stated that he has his own vehicle and also a well in his property and he felt that since the locals were facing a lot of problems due to non availability of water, he needed to alleviate the sufferings of the people.

“I have been working in the constituency for over 18 years and I know the people of this constituency,” he added.

“I bought a 2000 litre water tank and installed a system inside it which would pump water to fill the barrels, buckets and utensils of the people,” Volvoikar informed.

“It takes a lot of time to refill the water tank and then to distribute it. That’s the reason why only around 18 trips are possible daily. Otherwise 30-35 trips would have been possible,” he stated.

On the question of cost, Volvoikar informed that everything is borne by him and that he would continue providing water to the people till normal water supply doesn’t resume in Cumbharjua.
