Naik to probe lathi charge on fishermen

The government, in an order issued on Monday appointed South Goa Collector Swapnil Naik to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident of lathi charge against the protesting fishermen on May 12.

Naik, who had also conducted the magisterial inquiry into the alleged assault on Ravindra Velip, has been asked to determine whether there was any incident of lathi charge on the people demanding a ban on fishing using LED lights near the fisheries jetty on May 12, whether the Sub Divisional Magistrate Gaurish Shankhwalkar ordered the lathi charge, and if not him then who ordered the lathi charge.  
Naik has been given 30 days to submit his report.

Kiosks the way for govt’s health insurance scheme

The much-talked about Deendayal Swasthya Seva Yojana (DSSY) that will be registering insurers from May 30 will be done through specially designated kiosks which will be set up in talukas around the State.
