Name prominent landmarks in Margao after former leaders: MGP

The MG Party has demanded that the administration name prominent landmarks in the commercial capital after Goa’s first chief Minister, Dayanand Bandodkar, Opinion Poll leader Dr Jack de Sequeira, former Margao MLA late Babu Naik and Konkani language agitation's first martyr Florian Vaz.

In a letter to the city MLAs, Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai, besides Margao Municipal Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesdai, South Goa MG Party President Sudesh Malkarnekar suggested naming the old market junction as late D B Badodkar memorial junction. “Unarguably, and also the most important social leader in post-liberated Goan history and for the efforts of preserving our language and identity, we need to remember late Dr Jack Sequeira along with the first Konkani language martyr Florian Vaz, whose statue lies in a desecrated condition and towards which the MMC has not paid any heed to,” he said.

He has requested to get the statue of Vaz redone at the Housing Board junction opposite Kurtarkar building towards the entrance of Housing Board and to name the traffic circle after Dr Sequeira. “To recognize the contribution of the former MLA of our city and the most dynamic Minister, late Babu Naik, the Gogol junction referred to as the Bolshe circle, may be known after his name,” he added.
