Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday informed that the main process of removing the naphtha from the grounded tanker MT Nu Shi Nalini will commence on Thursday.
Sawant was speaking to reporters after attending a high-level joint meeting in the Mormugao Port Trust administrative office on Tuesday evening. The meeting was attended by MPT Chairman Dr E Ramesh Kumar, Chief Secretary Parimal Rai, Navy, Coast Guard and other departments concerned.
Sawant said that the naphtha would be offloaded with the help of hydraulic pumps from the grounded ship and shifted into barges and subsequently transferred into another ship arriving from UAE.
“The meeting was a joint one with all agencies and stakeholders concerned with the removal of the grounded tanker on board. The only agenda of the meeting was emptying the naphtha from the grounded ship,” Sawant said.
“We have had discussions on what we will require and how we can carry out this vital operation. We require hydraulic pumps which we have already arranged. These have arrived from Mumbai and are lying on the MPT jetty. These will be loaded on the grounded ship with the help of helicopters,” he said.
