A senior consultant from the National Biodiversity Authority (NBA) at New Delhi met with the award-winning Shristhal Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) and toured the hinterlands of Cotigao village in Canacona taluka
NBA Senior Consultant Sangita Mitra interacted with the Shristhal BMC Chairperson Vinay Tubki and member Shirish Pai, who has been recently co-opted on the State Advisory board.
Mitra showed keen interest in the functioning and activities of the Shristhal BMC and also sought to know the difficulties faced by other BMCs in Canacona taluka.
Mitra and the Shristhal BMC members then visited a local cashew distillery in the village, a Turtle Rehabilitation Site of Galgibaga (Poinguinim) and a jaggery production unit set up by local sarpanch Umesh Gaonkar in Cotigao.
Mitra was given a demonstration on the traditional process of cashew distillation and appreciated the dedication and efforts put in by traditional farmers.
