Stating that nationalization of six Goan rivers would be disastrous, Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai said all Goans should unite and oppose the move of the State government.
He was speaking at the protest meeting at Nerul organized by Goa Forward to oppose nationalization of rivers of Goa.
“The capital dredging of Goan rivers is meant for transportation of coal and ore. The backwater tourism of Goa will suffer a severe setback. The tourism minister should have brought this to the notice of the government,” said Sardessai.
“The State government has nationalized our international tourism. The government system has become corrupt. The loan taken by the State government from open market and other means and ways has touched a staggering amount of Rs 16,000 crore and every Goan is now born with a loan of Rs 2 lakh,” stated Sardessai.
“As per the survey conducted by a local television channel, 70 percent Goans desire change in the government and hence BJP's defeat is certain in the ensuing assembly election,” he said.
Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte said corruption has become rampant in the State government.
“No work can be done in any government department unless one greases the palms of the government officials concerned. The government says that the Investment Promotion Board has been formed to generate employment opportunities for the unemployed youth. This is a blatant lie. It has been formed to help the corporates,” said Khaunte.
“Traffic congestion at Porvorim has become a regular affair. I had requested the government not to allow heavy vehicles via Porvorim during peak hours and to open waterways to ease traffic congestion but to no avail,” said Khaunte.
Saligao and Siolim candidates of Goa Forward Party Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vinod Palyekar respectively, Pilerne Citizens Forum convenor Prakash Bandodkar, Milton Marques, Mohandas Lolienkar and Prashant Naik also spoke at the meeting.
Bhopal Chodanker welcomed the gathering. As there was no electricity, the meeting was held in total darkness with just a generator in use.

PORVORIM: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte stated that he had been vocal, both on the floor of the house as well as on public forum against functioning of the State government and even approached the Lokayukt in regard to beach scam of the tourism department.
“This indicates that I have no plan to join the BJP,” stated Khaunte.
“Inspite of this some bunch of Porvorim BJP office bearers organized a news conference at Mapusa and created a feeling that I am interested in joining BJP and further stated that development in Porvorim has been done by their party and I should not should not take credit for it,” said Khaunte.
“This is ridiculous. It is a well-known fact that local MLA plays an important role in the development of his constituency. Unless proposals are sent and the matter is pursued with the minister and the department concerned, development does not take place.”
“It is a tedious process. These BJP office bearers should not criticize others to show to the public that they are all united and their real unity will surface during allotment of tickets,” said Khaunte.
