Power infrastructure is set to receive a big boost in Navelim constituency, with the power department setting in motion the process to execute underground cabling, a new power substation and replacement of conductors, all estimated to cost a whopping over Rs 82 crore.
Speaking to the media after laying the stone for the installation of a 200 KVA electric transformer at Modabhat at Modi-Mandopa in Navelim village, Faleiro said the underground cabling project costing Rs 65 crore has been tendered again after the bids invited by the department found no takers.
“We expect the project will be implemented in the New Year. Once completed, it will ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers in Navelim constituency,” he said.
Faleiro pointed out that work on the new power station costing Rs 15 crore will also start in the New Year. “The tender has been finalized. When it is installed, the substation capacity in Navelim will increase to 40 mega watts which will take care of the power situation for the next one decade,” he added.
The Navelim MLA said since the existing power distribution infrastructure had become too old and was crumbling, the government sanctioned a project to replace the conductors and poles wherever necessary.
“The Modi area in Mandopa ward in Navelim village has witnessed a host of new housing constructions in recent times. The construction activity may increase in the coming days. To avoid a strain on the existing infrastructure, the new power transformer will take care of the needs of the locality,” he added.
While thanking Power Minister Nilesh Cabral for sanctioning the projects in Navelim, Faleiro also thanked Assistant Engineer Kavendra Naik and the lady junior engineer for their dedicated work in attending to the power issues faced by the consumers.
