MARGAO

A woman from Navelim has been cheated by an unknown accused to the tune of Rs 3.38 lakh after sending her an Instagram friend request in the month of May.

After the victim accepted the friendship offer, the accused developed an online relationship with her through instagram chats and subsequently exchanged mobile numbers by falsely representing that he was in need of financial assistance for various personal reasons.

With a dishonest intention, the Margao police said the accused repeatedly induced the victim to transfer money through UPI transactions. Believing the representations to be genuine, the woman  transferred a total amount of Rs 3.38 lakh   to different bank accounts and UPI IDs as directed by the accused.

Despite receiving the money, the accused never met the complainant woman and failed to return the amount, thereby dishonestly cheating her and causing wrongful loss of Rs. 3.38 lakh to the complainant.
