MARGAO
Even as relatives and friends of Edwin Coelho have upped the ante for the dismissal of suspended PSI Stanley Gomes from service, Director General of Police I D Shukla on Monday said he has told the district police chief, SP Abhishek Dania, IPS to look into the complaint lodged by the victim in the Navelim episode.
At first, the DGP feigned ignorance about the Navelim issue when the media sought to know his reaction. However, when pointed out that the media is referring to the assault on a citizen by a PSI, attached to the Margao police station, DGP Shukla said the erring police sub-inspection has already been placed under section.
Besides, he said that a departmental inquiry has been initiated against the suspended PSI by the department.
“I have told the SP, South to look into the complaint lodged by the victim. The SP, South must be looking into the episode”, he added.
The DGP did not go into the details of the inquiry so far, but his statement is an indication that he seized of the matter.
Family members and relatives of Edwin Coelho had on Sunday demanded termination of service of the suspended PSI Stanley Gomes immediately. They had contended that the suspended cop had ruined Edwin’s career as well as his future as the assault had left his eardrum ruptured.
The family had further demanded registration of a criminal case against the suspended cop.
