Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command Vice Admiral Girish Luthra on Friday said the navy has plans to induct more aircraft, adding that the ‘Make in India’ and indigenisation of aircraft parts has great scope in the aviation sector.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the one-day Naval aviation seminar at Rajhans in Vasco, Vice Adm Luthra said: “There are plans that are in different stages of processing and yes, the Navy has plans to induct more aircraft in the Indian Navy.”
Stating that the ‘Make in India’ plan has good scope in the aviation sector, defence or commercial, in the country, he added that more infrastructure and facilities are being set up in India by global and Indian companies in the aviation sector.
“This sector is likely to grow rapidly in the next few years as we move towards ‘Make in India’ and indigenisation,” said V Adm Luthra.
“With regards to indigenisation, we have a plan for the next five years which we have shared with the industry. We have also worked out guidelines for indigenization in the aviation sector.”
V Adm Luthra informed that the navy’s specific requirements for indigenisation have been made available to the industry. “At the expo, we also laid out a large number of pieces of equipment that can be indigenised by our industry and details of such equipment has been made available to them,” he said.
