Navy meets fishing community at Chicolna, Chapora

Officials from the Western Naval Command interacted with the fishing community in Chicolna and Chapora, as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav' launched by central government along the west coast.

Several teams comprising personnel from Indian Navy, Coast Guard, Coastal Security Police and representatives of state fisheries department visited over 50 fishing villages along the coasts of Goa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Karnataka on March 12.

The opportunity was utilised to strengthen the bond between coastal security agencies and fishermen who operate in the same environment.

As part of this interaction, various activities like lectures on aspects of safety, coastal security, the vital role of fishermen in supporting security agencies, and demonstrations on use of lifesaving and portable fire fighting equipment at sea were conducted.

The Goa Naval Area team carried out interaction programmes with fishermen community at Chapora and Chicolna villages, while the Naval teams from Karnataka Naval Area visited coastal villages of Karwar taluka, which included Tadadi, Honavar, Kumta, Majali, Baithkol, Mudaga, Belekeri and Ankola.

The teams from Gujarat Naval Area visited various coastal villages that included Subhash Nagar, Miyani, Navi Bandar, Madhavpur, Kuchudi, Odadar, Beyt Dwarka, Dwarka, Okha and Aarambada.

Similarly, the naval teams belonging to Maharashtra Naval Area visited over 30 fishing villages all across the state.
