The Central anti-narcotics agency Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has been markedly hyperactive in its surveillance of the illegal narco-trade in Goa this year and sources claim as many as 12 significant trafficking rackets were busted.
With attention sharply focussed on it in the aftermath of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide last year, the NCB’s Mumbai and Goa units launched multiple operations which unearthed a Goa link to the narco trade and chain of supply to the Bollywood circles.
Since then, the central agency has put in concerted efforts and drug trade rings across Mumbai and Goa have been busted.
Addressing the media on Friday, NCB Mumbai Director said they have booked 12 cases in Goa and 94 in Mumbai.
Also, nearly 300 peddlers and suppliers have been rounded up and arrested across both these regions which are inter-connected due to their geographical proximity besides economic and communications connectivity.
Wankhede said: “Around 94 cases are from Mumbai and 12 from Goa this year. Over 300 peddlers and suppliers have been arrested, including the busting of 12 major gangs.”
He said some mini-labs, where substances are either manufactured or administered value addition were dismantled.
