NEP at pre-primary level from next academic year: CM

Says will take all stakeholders into confidence

PANAJI
The New Education Policy will be implemented from the next academic year at the pre-primary level after taking all stakeholders into confidence, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday.

Sawant also said that the government was not in a position to implement the NEP earlier because of the pandemic.

“NEP will be implemented from next academic year at the pre-primary level,” Sawant told reporters on the sidelines of a Teachers’ Day event in the state capital.

“The Education Department will implement the NEP from next year, after taking all stakeholders into confidence, right from pre-primary, primary (levels),” Sawant also said.

He further said that the Education Department had received a report of the committee appointed by the state government to study the NEP and explore ways and means to implement it in the educational institutions in the state.

“The committee has submitted a report. We have received the final draft. We will have to decide on how to take it ahead. We wanted to start it this year in the pre-primary. Because of the pandemic, it was not possible,” Sawant said.

Speaking at the Teachers’ Day function, Sawant also said the state Education Ministry was thinking about introducing courses with vertical mobility in the higher secondaries, while adding that there was a need to focus on career-oriented education and introducing a syllabus which was more “state-centric”.

Sawant also said that the state had the best education infrastructure in the country, both when it came to government schools and educational institutions aided by the government.

“We have the best infrastructure in the education sector throughout the country. We are the number one state in the country. I can say this with confidence. You can compare with any other state,” the Chief Minister said.
