A Nepali woman who was reported missing from a meditation centre in Ashvem-Mandrem was traced by Mandrem police in Chopdem.

Addressing the media in Porvorim, North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said a missing complaint regarding Aarti Hamal (36), the daughter of a mayor at a city in Nepal, had been lodged by the centre manager with the Mandrem police on Tuesday evening.

Acting on the complaint, SP Kaushal said special police teams were formed and an alert was sounded to all police stations in Goa to launch searches in their respective areas.

“Police teams were also sent to all hospitals in Goa and CCTVs around the area where she was staying were also searched.”

“Based on these searches, Hamal was traced in another resort at Chopdem on Wednesday morning. Necessary medical assistance has been provided to the woman and legal action, if required, will be initiated,” said Kaushal.

SP Kaushal further stated that Hamal was not kidnapped but had voluntarily gone out leaving her mobile in the meditation centre at Ashvem.

“She was not familiar with the topography of the area and in the absence of mobile phone, she could not locate her resort,” said SP Kaushal.

“The North Goa police could trace the missing woman within 10-12 hours of the complaint, and the Mandrem police deserves appreciation for this quick search operation and detection. Her family members have arrived and are with her. She is presently undergoing counselling,” the SP added.

The entire search operation was led by Mandrem Police Inspector Sherif Jacques and SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi under the overall supervision of SP Kaushal.

Incidentally, Aarti’s father Gopal Hamal had appealed to authorities and Goans on social media for help in locating his daughter.
