Forest department officials attached to Netravali Wild Life Sanctuary on Wednesday arrested Gurudas Mahadev Kuskekar of Netravali on charges of illegally installing an electric fence near the Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary.

Sources informed that Kuskekar had allegedly used a hook to tap directly into a main 11kV power line that runs through his property in Haldikune-Netravali.

Acting swiftly in the matter after having noticed the illegal power fence, the forest department registered the offence against Kuskekar under Sections 9 and 32 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Kuskekar was reportedly released on bail by the JMFC at Sanguem.

Installing electric fences is dangerous, and in a similar incident at Shivsorem-Rivona, two brothers got electrocuted after coming in contact with live wires installed on the fence of a property.
