Goa Forward Party's Atanasio Babush Monserrate has lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell over fake news involving him being circulated on social media.
"I would like to bring to your notice that some unknown people have used my name and released false and malicious news about me in the social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp," read the complaint.
"This is causing grave damage to me and my party namely Goa Forward Party. This is also causing hindrance in the conduct of free and fair poll as it seeks to mislead the voters of Panaji constituency which is going to the elections on August 23, 2017," he stated.
Addressing a press conference to clarify on the issue, Monserrate said, "There is false news which is going around on social media that I have appealed to the people of Panaji not to vote for
Parrikar. I had earlier also appealed to the people of Panaji to vote for Parrikar and that we are supporting him wholeheartedly. I have instructed all my councillors to work for him the way they've worked for me. In fact work better than what they had worked for me."
Hitting out at the Opposition, he said, "They know that they have lost the ground. So this is a desperate attempt by them to malign me."
