Nuvem Sarpanch Dr Breezy Barretto and the local residents of Goulloy on Saturday asserted that the 2016 gram sabha resolution had never demanded the stoppage of Christmas midnight dances and weddings at the Woodbourne club, saying their objection was only to the holding of pool parties at the club.
Addressing a joint media conference, Dr Breezy informed that the gram sabha held in August 2016 had resolved to stop pool parties at Woodbourne club because of parking issues as well as playing of loud music.
The Sarpanch said that the gram sabha had never resolved to stop the Christmas midnight dances or weddings at the venue, a ground which was used by the police and the district authorities to deny permission for the Christmas midnight dance at Woodbourne on December 24 night.
Flanked by Nuvem ZP Member and former Sarpanch Reuben D’Costa, Breezy said she and the residents have come to clarify that the 2016 gram sabha resolution was passed only to demand stoppage of pool parties at the Woodbourne and not weddings and Christmas midnight dances.
A local resident Roy Gomes told the media that the local residents of Goulloy had demanded a stop to the pool parties at Woodbourne since these parties threw up a host of problems for the residents, including parking on the road. “Our complaint to the panchayat was only against the pool parties and not against the Christmas midnight dances or weddings,” Roy said.
The clarification by the Nuvem Sarpanch and the local residents assumes significance given that the police and the district authorities had taken shelter of the 2016 gram sabha resolution to refuse permission for the Christmas midnight dance at Woodbourne on December 24, disappointing hundreds of people who had thronged the venue to celebrate Christmas after the midnight mass.
