CANACONA
Stating that a new administrative complex in Canacona is under consideration, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has also assured that an Aadhar enrolment centre in Canacona would be made available from October 1.
Sawant was speaking while chairing a meeting of senior officers from various government departments in the presence of District Collector Ashvin Chandru and issued them various directions.
Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, CMC Chairperson Sara Naik Desai, the Canacona deputy collector and mamlatdar were among the officials present at the meeting.
Govt buildings
The Chief Minister emphasised the need for a comprehensive administrative building in Canacona to house all government offices under one roof. He proposed constructing a new taluka administrative building on government land initially designated for a Krishi Ghar for the agriculture department. He urged officials to present a plan and estimates for the new building, which would improve public access to governance, replacing the current Dy Collectorate, which accommodates only 16 offices.
Reviewing the status of 124 government buildings in Canacona, the Chief Minister was informed that 13 have roof leakages and are covered with plastic. He directed that these buildings be repaired within three months and stated that all necessary improvements, renovations, and refurbishments must be completed by December. He plans to inaugurate all these buildings on December 1.
Additionally, he suggested temporary relocation of certain offices to the old Community Health Centre building, the Disaster Shelter Home at Nagarcem, and the Govt Rest House at Shristhal. The fire station could be moved to the Disaster Shelter at Chapoli. For transport offices facing space issues, he recommended expanding within the KTC complex where they are currently housed.
Infrastructure
The chief minister assured to get the Saleri Bridge, which has developed cracks on its concrete spans, repaired and directed the PWD to inspect the bridge immediately.
He also instructed officials of WRD, Captain of Ports and Fisheries to inspect the soil erosion at Galgibaga, and other coastal areas, and to make arrangements for canoe parking spaces in Palolem.
Health facilities
Commenting on health facilities in Canacona taluka, the chief minister informed Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC) Health Officer Dr Jose Tavares that necessary doctors, especially specialists, would have to be obtained on contract basis and agreed to post other staff at CHC.
“Doctors are in shortage and some specialists are unwilling to come, so doctors will have to be hired on contract basis,” said Sawant.
The chief minister assured that two Ambulances, besides a 2-wheeler ambulance, will be allotted to the Canacona CHC shortly.
Services in Canacona
The Chief Minister announced that an Aadhar enrolment centre will open in Canacona on October 1, benefiting the taluka's residents. He also assured the allocation of a hearse van to Canacona. Emphasising the importance of prompt and courteous service, the Chief Minister instructed government officials to ensure that no visitor leaves disappointed. He urged staff to improve public convenience and service delivery, ensuring that people leave government offices with a positive experience.
