Minister for Panchayats Mauvin Godinho on Saturday said the new district hospital at Chicalim is likely to be inaugurated by December.
Speaking to reporters along the sidelines of a function to inaugurate sewage network works in Chicalim, Godinho said many development works were in the pipeline and the hospital, which is one of them, would be thrown open to the public soon.
“I do not want to inaugurate a project just because some activists and people are making noises. The top priority is to first have a sewage network connection in all parts of the constituency.”
“Some people are saying the district hospital complex is ready and want to know why it is not being inaugurated. There are many facilities that we want to offer to people in the new hospital.”
“I think 50 nurses, 10 doctors and associated staff are being recruited. The recruitment process is going on and will be completed in a month’s time, and before that it makes no sense to move to a new hospital,” said the minister.
Taking a dig at the activists, Godinho added, “What is the point of shifting just because people are making noise? These same people will scream again saying the hospital is shifted but there is no change at all.”
“Old equipment, dirty bedsheets and non-functional equipment is not something I want to give to the people by shifting the hospital at this stage.”
Godinho said he wanted to ensure the new district hospital is equipped with good medical facilities.
“I request people to bear with us for some time as Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is sick and this has caused a delay in the recruitment process.”
“The interiors will be done and equipment will be procured. We may inaugurate the new hospital in about two months. We will have the new district hospital at Chicalim fully functional and operational with latest facilities in the new year,” Godinho added.
