Taking strong exception to the meeting held by Goa Forward leaders with government officials to review the development works of Cuncolim constituency, the Congress on Thursday demanded suspension of all the officials who had attended the review meeting called by the regional political party on Wednesday.
South Goa district Congress president Joe Dias further said the Congress will petition to the Chief Secretary on Friday to initiate action against the officials who had attended the review meeting called by the Goa Forward party leaders.
Addressing the media in the presence of Congress leader and former Paroda sarpanch Deepak Kharangate, district president Joe Dias expressed shock and surprise that the officials had attended the review meeting called by the Goa Forward when Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in the past had stopped officials from going to the residence of the elected MLAs. “How can the Goa Forward hold a meeting with the government officials and how have the officials attended the meeting,” Joe wondered.
While taking strong exception to the statement made by Goa Forward vice-president Durgadas Kamat that the party will sort out all issues in Cuncolim, Joe drew attention of the Goa Forward leaders that there’s an elected MLA Clafacio Dias representing Cuncolim constituency.
“Durgadas has said that Goa Forward supremo Vijai Sardesai will monitor the works in Cuncolim. I would like to ask the Goa Forward leaders why are they interfering in Cuncolim when there’s an elected MLA,” Joe asked.
He pointed out that Durgadas Kamat was removed as the OSD to Water Resources Minister Vinoda Paliencar and wondered why is he taking keen interests in the development works of Cuncolim by convening review meeting with government officials.
Deepak Kharangate told the media that if members of political parties can hold meetings with government officials, the same right should be bestowed on the sarpanchas and Municipal chairpersons to call the officials for review meetings. “Let the government take a decision on bestowing similar rights on elected sarpanchas and Municipal chairpersons. Otherwise, elected local self-government representatives will come on to the streets,” Kharangate warned.
