The Public Works Department (PWD) on Friday announced the closure of the New Mandovi Bridge for all types of vehicular traffic from March 2 to 10 for maintenance work.
The announcement comes on the same day the department reopened the Old Mandovi Bridge, which had been closed since February 15 for similar work.
“The Executive Engineer, Works Division-(NH), PWD, Panaji, has ordered the closure of the New Mandovi Bridge for all types of vehicular traffic from March 2 to 10, 2025, and the diversion of traffic having a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of up to 12.00 tons onto the Old Mandovi Bridge and vehicles having a GVW of more than 12.00 tons onto the Atal Setu Bridge to facilitate hindrance-free and speedy completion of the said sub-work,” reads the notice issued by the PWD.
The PWD closed the Old Mandovi Bridge for all vehicular traffic on February 15, diverting vehicles to the New Mandovi Bridge and Atal Setu. A notification from the Executive Engineer, WD VII (NH), PWD, issued on January 29, stated that this closure was part of the ongoing project under the NH(O) Annual Plan 2023-24. The project included overlaying a new surface, implementing safety measures, and painting both the New and Old Mandovi Bridges.
