MAPUSA
Power Minister Nilesh Cabral has said a new building for the Mapusa electricity department office will be built at Housing Board at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore.
He also informed that 20 new transformers would be set up by the department to ensure better power supply to Mapusa and other parts of the State. “The work has been started so that tourist places like Calangute, Baga should not suffer. There is a need for better electricity in April-May and hence work to set up more transformers with higher capacity has been undertaken. The new transformers will be set up by February end,” said Cabral while speaking to reporters during a visit to the Assagao plateau along with Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, where a garbage dump is being processed with the help of machinery.
“Waste management projects at Saligao, Cacora and Bainguinim are the need of the hour for Goa. Our goal is to make Goa garbage-free. The waste management project at Cacora will be started by August,” Cabral added.
Lobo said the dump at Assagao plateau will be cleared by May end. “There were about 1,32,645.7884 cubic mtrs of garbage dump here and 86,000 cubic mtrs of garbage waste have been disposed of and the remaining 46,645.79 cubic mtrs will be processed,” Lobo said.
