MARGAO
Former State Election Commissioner and educationist, Prabhakar Timble, who has joined the new regional party as one of its founder members, on Monday announced that the new outfit will be launched in Goa on the eve of Republic Day on January 25.
Speaking to The Goan, Timble said that the new party will elect its office bearers and president within this week, adding that all documents pertaining to the registration of the party will be submitted to the Election Commission in a day or two. “The Constitution of the new party has been formulated by a team of around 100 founder members. These members will elect the State Executive Council within the next 2-3 days, who in turn will elect the party office-bearers, including the president on the same day," Timble said.
Replying to a question, he said the new party will be launched on January 25 on the eve of Republic Day, adding that the party will approach the Election Commission of India for registration since it is now just an unregistered, unrecognized association waiting to become a political party.
He pointed out that the work on the formation of the new party has been going on since the last 8-9 months after a few people came together and interacted with citizens, right from Canacona to Pernem, Mormugao to Sanguem and Margao to Sattari. “We met people from all communities, besides leader of trade unions, tribal communities, local political leaders et al," he said.
As against the perception that the new party is being floated with the initiative of only the three Independent MLAs, Timble said they had interaction with not just the three Independents, but legislators from other political parties and people, who are active in politics. “After the interaction, we realised that people were looking for a new party. We also felt that a new political outfit was requird in Goa in order to fulfill the aspirations of the people," he said, adding 'people everywhere felt that something is going terribly wrong in Goa. People were disenchanted with the BJP and they felt that nothing was happening in Goa and hence the need was felt for a new party'.
Replying to another question, Timble said that the party will unveil its election strategy, on alliances with other political parties and the difference between the new party and the existing parties in due course of time after documents are submitted to the Election Commission of India for registration.
