MARGAO
The latest ward reservations notified by the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) have cleared decks for Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat’s son Yogiraj to make a debut in politics.
While the latest reservations have scuttled all plans of former minister late Babu Naik’s son Prabhav to join electoral politics after his Ward 22 stands reserved for OBC, hopes have been raised for the political debut of Digambar’s son from Ward 18.
It is not out of place to mention here that Ward 18 was reserved for OBC, virtually ruling out the possibility of Yogiraj contesting.
The Leader of Opposition, however, said nothing has been decided on the question of son Yogiraj contesting in view of the new reservations. “Nothing has been decided yet. We will all sit and take a decision on the candidature of Ward 18,” Kamat added.
When pointed out that former MMC Chairperson Ganashyam Shirodkar from his Model Margao panel had also earlier set his eyes on Ward 18 before it was reserved for the OBC, Kamat said the candidature for Ward 18 will be decided after a meeting with the candidates.
It may be recalled that Yogiraj had prepared the groundwork to contest from Ward 18 as evident by the work he had carried out during the pandemic.
Ward 18 was considered safe for Digambar and his candidates for the simple reason that two out of the three parts that make up the ward have large voters from Migrant-inhabited Moti Dongor.
