Newspapers should retain credibility: CM

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar called on journalists and newspapers to retain their credibility even as he said that he felt that credibility now stands at around 50-55%.

Speaking on the death anniversary of freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak, celebrated as Journalists Day in Goa, Parrikar said that press could play an important role in helping the chief minister know what is going on in his own government.
"The press is ultimately our eyes and ears. The credibility of a report should be guarded. This is most important thing to be maintained by the fourth estate," Parrikar said.
"From 75 per cent in 2002, the credibility of the news report is now at 50 -55 per cent," Parrikar added. "Government should be criticized... Newspapers are a useful thing for me," he stated.

Ajgaonkar sings in favour of EDMs for quality tourism

Tourism Minister Manohar ‘Babu' Ajgaonkar has said that electronic dance music festivals (EDMs) like Sunburn and Supersonic help the state in attracting quality tourists. He further added that such events also help the exchequer, hoteliers and locals in generating revenue.

Interestingly, neither Sunburn nor Supersonic happened in Goa in 2016. Earlier, these events had garnered controversy as their organisers owe money to the state government.
