Demanding police protection for the family of a victim in a recent assault case reported at Vasco, NGO Savera Convenor Tara Kerkar slammed the police for its inability to nab the accused who attacked a garage owner, Mohamed Ishaan alias Shanu, with a sword in broad daylight.
“It could have been a well-planned attack as it coincided when PI Nolasco Raposo was on leave for a few days,” said Kerkar, while addressing a news conference on Saturday afternoon.
“The victim, Shanu, had no parents and was living along with two of his sisters who are living in fear of another attack on Shanu who is injured and lying helpless at home.”
“It is important that police protection be provided to the two sisters of the victim. The police should ensure such cases are solved and dealt with an iron hand as a top priority instead of catching people who are smoking on roads and other petty crimes,” said Kerkar.
Tarannum Shaikh, sister of the victim, had also sought police protection as they were only two women at home with the brother, who has been injured and could not sleep for many nights, fearing another attack on the victim
“We are scared that there could be another attack on my brother. We are alone and even with a small squealing sound, we get up in fear. We have no one else. Our brother Ishaan was the only earning member and someone who protected us. Today, we are alone. We fear for our lives and that of my brother. We request police to offer us some protection,” said Tarannum.
