GOACAN has demanded that the move by the BSNL Goa Telecom District Principal General Manager YC Mishra to discontinue providing printed bills by post from January 1, 2019 by giving just one week’s notice be immediately put on hold. The NGO higlighted the one week window to be not enough for adapting to changed method.
GOACAN coordinator Roland Martins has said that over one lakh landline consumers will be affected and chaos will be witnessed at the Customer Service Centres (CSCs) all over Goa as this decision is taken in haste during the festive season of Christmas & New Year without properly informing the consumers.
“Although the BSNL GM claims that the instruction has come from the Corporate Office, Maharashtra Circle, a visit to the BSNL website will show that there isn’t any official Press Release or Order posted on the
website,” he said.
He said such a move must not be implemented in haste and must be immediately put on hold till further notice.
“Only after putting in place the alternative mechanism and proper discussion with the District Collectors, General Administration Department (GAD) Goa Government, Telecom Advisory Committee (TAC), such a decision may be considered from April 1, 2019.”
Roland warned there will be mass surrendering of landline connections after fights with lower level clerks at the cash counters all over Goa if BSNL officials fail to keep the decision on hold.
In fact, he said BSNL Goa will start to lose huge revenue due to this hasty move which has been seen in poor taste by the senior citizen consumers of Goa.
“Consumers used to paying bills at bank counters and post offices will be badly affected as no alternate arrangements have been made. Schools, HSS and colleges who have been on holidays will be in great trouble as the decision is sought to be implemented from January 1, 2019. Moreover Goa government departments will also be the first to be affected as BSNL has yet to collect the email IDs of hundreds of government offices to implement this
order,” he added.
