NH-17 expansion: LAO to decided on compensation for land acquired

"For National Highway Projects, the Government has appointed Special Land Acquisition Officer. The rates of compensation will be decided based on the zoning of land, nature of land, sales statistics from mamlatdar concerned and revenue rates notified in the Government Gazette and as such will vary," said PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar in a written reply to the State Legislative Assembly.
The reply was in response to the question tabled by St Andre MLA Francisco Silveira who sought to know whether the Government will ensure that equal rate of compensation be given to all land holders whose land has been acquired by the Government for expansion of NH 17.
Dhavalikar also informed that currently four-laning work is in progress and the stretch is a construction zone and necessary measures and speed restrictions are imposed in the zone to control speed, he said in response to the question whether Government will provide rumblers at dangerous crossings along the new bypass from Goa Velha to Agacaim.
"There is also a proposal to construct observatory/viewing gallaries on the tower over the pylons of the cable-stayed bridge which will also house a restaurant.
The proposal is under consideration by the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways and the feasibility and safety norms will be studied," informed Dhavalikar.
