The ongoing road expansion work of NH-66 claimed another life when a 35-year-old Colvale youth riding a bike went off the road and fell on hard concrete surface of the under construction highway and was killed early Sunday morning.
According to Mapusa Police the mishap took place at around 1.30 am along the highway between Green Park Hotel, Guirim and Tar junction, Bastora.
The deceased, Santosh Gawandi, resident of Mushirvaddo, Colvale, was proceeding towards Carrasvaddo along the NH-66.
The motorcycle, GA 03 AK 3590 he was riding apparently went off the road and he was thrown on the concrete surface of the under construction NH-66 and sustained injuries, police said.
He was shifted to North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa, where he was declared brought dead.
The post-mortem report of the deceased has revealed that the cause of death was due to damage to chest, abdomen and spinal cord consequent to blunt force impact.
It may be recalled The Goan on June 28 had reported how the ongoing highway expansion work of almost 15 kms of NH66 from Guirim to Colvale had become treacherous for motoring.
The authorities had failed to adopt safety measures turning the entire stretch extremely dangerous for travelling, especially in the night.
Recently, Tivim MLA, Nilkant Halarnkar had also raised the issue of the precarious condition of the service roads along the NH-66 during the Calling Attention motion in the Goa Legislative Assembly.
Police has registered the case as unnatural death. PSI Amin Naik is investigation further.
