Anjuna Police have registered a case against a nightclub in Vagator for allegedly breaching noise limits and playing amplified music beyond the permitted time during the intervening night of July 12 and 13.

Police said the case was registered on Monday based on a complaint filed by PSI Sahil Vijay Warang of Anjuna Police Station after sound level monitoring was carried out at M/s Dynamo, Vagator.

According to police, the establishment allegedly continued playing music from 10 pm on July 12 until 2 am on July 13, beyond the permitted hours.

During inspections conducted at regular intervals, sound level readings of 72.14 dB, 72.17 dB, 70.85 dB and 66.09 dB were recorded between 10 pm and 2 am.

Police said the sound levels exceeded the permissible limits, causing noise pollution in the area and violating provisions of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

An offence has been registered under Rule 5 of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, read with Section 15 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

Further investigation is underway.

“The offence was registered after sound level monitoring indicated violations of the prescribed norms. The matter is under investigation and further action will be taken as per law,” a police officer said.

The case comes amid repeated complaints from residents about loud music from nightclubs along the coastal belt.
