After receiving a relatively normal monsoon, the State is all set to welcome the winter. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials informed that there will be a slight nip in the air for the next couple of days as minimum temperature will be 2 degree less than normal.
For the past two days the State notched night readings (minimum temperature) of around 21 degree Celsius, a couple of degrees below normal in sync with the exit of monsoon.
The weather department attributed the fall in temperature due to changes in the wind pattern and clear skies.
However, the temperature will increase in the coming days, the IMD said.
According to a senior IMD official, although the cyclone did not have any direct impact in this region its presence in the western coast of Maharashtra and Goa brought the northernly component of winds in the region.
“When winds are coming from higher latitudes from the Northern side they are going to be comparatively cooler,” said Rahul Mohan of the IMD.
He further said that the cloud formation was much lesser due to reduced moisture incursion leading to clear skies in the night.
“With clear skies and low moisture the minimum temperature is likely to be below normal up to around October 28. There is likely to be a gradual rise in temperature from October 29 onwards,” the IMD official informed.
The IMD also said that the maximum temperature at Panaji is likely to be within the range of 33 to 34 degrees Celsius in the next five days while in the interior it could be higher by 2 degree Celsius.
On Tuesday, the highest maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius was recorded at Dabolim while the lowest minimum temperature of 20.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Panaji.
Locals have also realised the change in weather conditions.
“For the last two days, the weather has become pleasant both in the mornings and evenings,” said Clarene Braganza, a homemaker from Panaji.
Mapusa resident, Viraj Bhivshet said: “I could feel the nip in the air during the morning walk.”
