BJP State President Sadanand Tanavade has said that there were no talks on an alliance with any party and BJP was ready to fight the ensuing assembly polls on its own strength.
He, however, said that the party would evaluate the political situation in the State as elections draw near and accordingly decide on an alliance.
“There have been no talks on alliance yet. As of today, BJP is ready to go for it alone. We will fight the assembly elections on our own strength. But as elections approach, the party may think again (on alliance),” Tanavade said while addressing the media after the State executive committee meeting in Panaji.
He said since BJP was a national party, all the state leaders have been restrained and advised not to claim party tickets via the media.
“The party follows a procedure while selecting a candidate. We undergo a process to recommend names which are then forwarded to the BJP parliamentary board. The parliamentary board takes the final decision,” he said.
He said the party was growing and therefore, the clamour for the BJP ticket was bound to get louder.
Tanavade said it wasn’t right for him to speak on the curtailing of the duration of the State assembly session.
“That is the prerogative of the government. I cannot speak on it,” he said when prodded by the media for his opinion.
He also said elections will be held on time before the term of the current assembly ends.
Former MP Narendra Sawaikar and BJP General Secretary Damodar Naik were also present at the media briefing.
