Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai on Tuesday said the Sancoale Panchayat had decided not to issue construction licences to any more mega projects in its jurisdiction till the sewage issues are resolved.
Speaking to reporters, Pillai assured to take up a sewage treatment plant at the MES college area for around 800-900 houses facing inconvenience due to lack of proper sewage facilities.
The decision was taken after ward panch Nandini Desai said the area near MES college lacked sewerage facilities and many houses had been accused of discharging their sewage in open gutters which could lead to health hazards.
"We even carried out inspection and even sent notices, but people permanently covered the gutters with a slab and did not allow us to open it. We even threatened to disconnect electricity if they did not stop, but that too did not work,” said Desai.
“After some research, we realised that this is a rocky terrain and soak pits may not work. This area has around 800 houses and many mega projects and I request Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai to take up the issue with Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and get a sewage plant in this area on priority," said Desai.
When contacted, Sancoale Sarpanch Girish Pillai said he would take up the sewage treatment plant at the MES college area as a top priority.
