Asserting that there was no financial crunch in the State, Water Resources Minister, Vinoda Paliencar on Wednesday said government’s priority was infrastructure development and all works were on the right track.
“The government is not facing any financial problem. Our focus is infrastructure development and all ministers are doing their best to carry out various works in the constituencies,” Paliencar said.
The water resources minister was speaking to the media along the sidelines of a function to inaugurate the hot-mixing of roads in Verla-Canca.
Paliencar said funds were never a problem for the government, but admitted that work was stalled for some time as departments had some issues with the GST, a new tax regime introduced by the central government.
“There was a problem of GST sometime back, but that has been resolved and files are getting cleared now,” he said.
Claiming that works of Rs 50 crore will soon be taken up in Siolim, he said a major chunk of the funds will be utilized to hot-mix roads in the constituency.
“Rs 10 crore file has been cleared just two days ago. In another 15 days, hot-mixing of roads will begin in Siolim,” he said.
The Siolim MLA further informed that a new water pipeline work has been passed at an estimated cost of Rs 2 crore which will also be taken up in this month.
“A new power sub-station will also be installed in Siolim which is expected to take care of power issues facing the constituency,” he added.
The minister said the government has remained firm on infrastructure development and works were taking place on schedule.
Verla-Canca Sarpanch Milton Marques, Deputy Sarpanch Vrushali Arlekar and panch members Agacio D’Souza and Bala Naik were also present for the function.
