The PWD has repaired a damaged water supply pipeline that had developed leaks at the joints near INS Hansa gate at Dabolim on Saturday.
According to sources around 500 cubic metres of water was wasted on Friday night after the 900 mm prestressed concrete (PSC) pipeline developed a leak near the joints.
When contacted, Vishwambar Bhende, PWD Assistant Engineer informed that this pipeline from Selaulim dam was supplying water to entire Mormugao taluka and was repaired immediately on Saturday after the pipeline developed a leak late Friday night.
Bhende said that since the PSC pipeline was old, there was leakage due to separation and dismantling of the ring. Bhende said that though the pipeline was repaired on Saturday, PWD on Sunday had laid concrete blocks at the joints where the leakage had developed as a safety measure to prevent further leakage from the joints.
Though the pipeline had developed leaks on Friday, the PWD ensured that there was no problem to the regular water supply in Mormugao taluka, Bhende informed adding that water was supplied to the entire taluka as usual without dropping the level considering the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi.
