MARGAO: Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho on Wednesday demanded withdrawal of the false case foisted on the victim of police brutality Clint Rebello and has called for an impartial probe into the episode.
Addressing the media after visiting the Cuncolm police station, Pratima demanded that DGP Muktessh Chander and South Goa SP Arvind Gawas should walk the talk by not only suspending the erring policemen, but withdraw the false case register against Clint and carry out an impartial probe into the incident. “The DGP and SP, South should not act like deaf and dumb. Don’t force the people to come out on the roads to demand justice. Don’t succumb to the pressures of the godfathers of these policemen,” she said. The Mahila Congress chief said the Cuncolim police had filed a false case against Clint, just to stop him from going abroad. “Clint is a sailor with absolutely no criminal background. It is apparent that in order to cover up their brutality, the police have registered the false case against him,” she added.
Mahila Congress worker and Cuncolim Mahila Congress President Jeorgina Gama demanded to know why the police act in a brutal manner against innocent civilians. “Clint is a young sailor, who had just returned after hard work on a ship. We not only demand an impartial probe into the incident, but the Goa police should make the inquiry report public,” she demanded.
