The Goa police have ruled out handing over the inquest into the mysterious death of Bismarque Dias to the Crime Branch or any other agency because there is no indication that a crime has been committed.
Addressing a press conference, Deputy Inspector General of Police V Renganathan said that while they are venturing into the probe with an open mind, there isn’t anything to indicate that his death was a homicide.
“As per the post mortem reports, both of which have said that there are no ante mortem external injuries on the body of Bismarque. We are sensitive to the sentiments of the people and are keeping an open mind,” Renganathan said.
“For a case to be handed over to the Crime Branch, there needs to be a crime. At this moment there is nothing to indicate that there has indeed been a crime,” he said adding that the police have questioned the two boys separately and have corroborated their versions with several witnesses who met Bismarque and the two on the fateful night.
The police have also dispatched the viscera to the forensic laboratory in Hyderabad this morning with a request that the analysis be done quickly and a report be submitted urgently.
DIG Renganathan said that the case is being monitored at the highest level including supervision by the North Goa Superintendent of Police at every stage of the investigation.
The police have also interrogated the two persons who Bismarque complained had issued him death threats.
A final report in the case will be compiled only once the report of the viscera analysis arrives from Hyderabad.
