PORVORIM: Aam Aadmi Party’s Delhi MLA Adarsh Shastri blamed the State BJP government for doing nothing much to promote tourism in Goa.
Speaking at an AAP meeting at Saligao, Shastri said while the geographic areas of Singapore and Goa are more or less the same, Singapore has become a world-famous tourist destination, while Goa lags far behind.
“Goa has got potential to become one of the famous tourist destinations in Asia, but no sincere efforts have been made by the Goa tourism minister in this direction. There is shortage of intent among the BJP ministers in Goa. They are busy looking after their own welfare,” he said.
“Casino will give boost to prostitution and drug trafficking. If AAP comes to power, we will stop casinos,” assured Shastri.
Stating that the demonetisation had increased miseries of the poor people, he said none of the politicians, industrialists and government bureaucrats were ever seen standing in queues to get their money exchanged or deposit in banks.
“They have already made their black money white. The main purpose of demonetisation was to fill the coffers of nationalised banks to enable them to write off loans given to big industrialists.”
“Late Lal Bahadur Shastri's slogan 'Jai Jawan Jai Kisan' is still relevant. Soldiers are dying on the borders for no reason and farmers continue to commit suicides in India, but the government is not bothered about it. The government is trying to divert the attention of poor people by introducing new schemes,” said Shastri. AAP candidate for Saligao Pradeep Padgaonker and Vancy Viegas also spoke at the meeting.
