Goa Police department on Thursday suspended police constable Vikas Naik attached to the Mapusa Police Station, pending inquiry in connection with the alleged robbery of Rs 34 lakh of new currency, which was to change hands in an illegal old-to-new currency exchange deal.
Confirming the suspension of PC Naik, Deputy Inspector General of Police Vimal Anand Gupta stated, “Constable Naik has been placed under suspension pending inquiry owing to suspicion over his involvement in the robbery of Rs 34 lakh in new currency in Sangolda.”
DIG Gupta informed that PC Naik has denied any wrongdoing.
On being questioned by top cops about his presence at the spot of the offence, PC Naik claimed that that he had prior information about the illegal exchange of new currency, which was scheduled and that he had alerted Saligao Police in this regard. He further said that he had passed on this message to the Saligao police station. See pg 3
