During the day at the Goa Assembly session, Vasco MLA Sankalp Amonkar raised questions about the state’s Solar Ferry Boat project to River Navigation Minister Subhash Phaldessai. Amonkar sought details on the launch, operation, costs, and future plans for the project. Minister Phaldessai confirmed that the Solar Ferry Boat, named 'St. Pedro, PNJ 880', was commissioned on April 4, 2022. The boat operated on the Chodan to Panaji route for three months, offering free rides to passengers during this period. The minister provided financial details, stating that the Solar Ferry Boat cost Rs. 3,97,95,000. However, no income was generated from its operations since the rides were free for passengers. Phaldessai also confirmed that the department has trained personnel to operate the Solar Ferry Boat. The boat has a carrying capacity of 60 passengers, and all necessary infrastructure, such as ramps, is in place to support its operations. When asked about plans to construct more Solar Ferry Boats for Goan waters, the minister replied that there are currently no plans for additional boats. No reasons were provided for this decision.
