Goa continued to maintain a clean slate with no positive cases of COVID-19 reported in the state. By Monday, the last three patients who were suspected cases of the dreaded disease were discharged from the isolation unit at Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.
Speaking to The Goan, Director of Health Services Dr Jose D’Sa stated, “Two travellers were kept under observation at the isolation facility at GMC on Sunday along with one more patient. All three have now been discharged.” It was learnt that the samples from all three patients were sent to Kasturba Gandhi Hospital for Infectious Diseases, Mumbai.
The hospital, however, accepted only one of the samples as the the other two did not meet the travel history criteria set for categorization as a COVID-19 suspect. The report of the only case tested at the Mumbai-based hospital was declared as negative. Thereafter, GMC discharged all three patients.
Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry continues to monitor the situation in all states very closely. Video-conferences continue to be scheduled on daily basis from Delhi with the Chief Secretaries and top health officials of all states being asked to give a stock of the latest developments. “The Central Heath Ministry has been reviewing the situation regularly to ensure that guidelines are being strictly followed,” Dr D’Sa said.
